Characteristics of a great product
Alpaca fits the formula
Ever take a look at Entrepreneur magazine? It’s nearly always got some terrific articles about people who are starting their own businesses. In the July ’08 issue, author Guy Kawasaki sketched the characteristics of a great product into the formula D-I-C-E-E. (“Painting the Picture” p.40)
- Deep
- Indulgent
- Compleete
- Elegant
- Emotive
I found it fascinating that the alpaca and its lush, unparalleled fiber is such a product. It’s deep in that it doesn’t have a limited use. It can be made into a host of things from fabric to yarn to quilt batting. The list goes on and on.
To quote Kawasaki, “a great product is a luxury. It makes you feel special when you buy it.” I couldn’t have said it better myself. Nothing is more luxurious than alpaca.
“A great product is more than a physical thing. Documentation counts. Customer service counts . . . “ And that makes all our record-keeping, showing, advertising worth the effort. It backs up the product, emphasizes fiber, conformation – the works.
Elegant. Need we say more? And ‘emotive’ means you want to tell other people about it. It is such a wonderful product that it has to be shared. Best of luck as you share this good news with your neighborhood and friends on the 2nd National Alpaca Farm Day. Tell us what worked for you and we’ll feature the best ideas in our fall issue.
