Grand Lake

Grand Lake o' the Cherokees is located about halfway between Joplin, Missouri and Tulsa, Oklahoma, just a short distance from I-44 (Will Rogers Turnpike).

The lake was created over 60 years ago by the building of the Pensacola Dam. More than 60,000 acres of surface water and over 1300 miles of shoreline makes Grand Lake one of the largest freshwater lakes in the United States. It is also one of only seven lakes in the United States that allows private boat dock ownership. It's a paradise unlike anything you could ever imagine. Come visit and see why we call this area "Green Country." The Pensacola Dam is the "World's Longest Multiple Arch Dam." It is 1-1/4 miles long and generates electricity for Northeast Oklahoma. (www.pensacoladam.com) The nearby town of Grove is located on Grand Lake and was named by Rand McNally as the 4th Best Place in the United States to retire. Other communities nearby include Vinita, which features the world-famous Calf Fry and Annual Will Rogers Rodeo.
